I have a significant hearing loss but I can usually get by with a good quality hearing impaired phone. I did not buy this on Amazon, and I'm sorry, because I would return it. The phone has the capability to get very loud, but the voice quality doesn't improve. Loud is not always better for the hearing impaired, and on this phone it's downright uncomfortable. Calls received from cell phones and speaker phones are the worst, and let's face it, everyone uses a cell phone these days! I've also had problems with customer service numbers to the point where I have to change phones in the middle of the conversation. This phone does not work outside the home (backyard, patio, etc.), and the reception fades the further away from the base you get. I purchased this after my 6 year old Clarity C4230 bit the dust but have already bought the Clarity C4220 (didn't need an answering machine this time) to replace this one. The Clarity has an easy to use "tone" control allowing you to change the voice quality while on a call. This makes your caller easier to understand, regardless of the type of phone being used. The Serene now sits in my spare bedroom and once I get around to buying an additional handset for the new Clarity, you'll see this one on EBay at a great price...Most of the consumer Reviews tell that the "Serene Innovations SI-CL-60 w/ amplified & slow p" are high quality item.
