Porsche Design P'3635 PD5 Jet Flame black Review

This lighter is beautiful looking, no doubt. It's satisfying to hold, with such heft in a small body, has abrupt, loud corners that exclaim, "Notice me!" and a subtle contour trigger that slides easily with the thumb to light the torch.

With little doubt, this is one of the smallest lighters I've held. It is extremely thin and virtually unnoticeable when dropped into a pocket. Yet for its size, it has a very solid and reassuring feel. Users may find themselves clicking the trigger absentmindedly.
The fuel window works, though to me seems most accurate when viewing with the lighter upside-down, rather than when it is standing normally, as air bubbles interfere with the reading. The window does tend to collect dust, too, but is easily remedied by a quick swipe of the corner of a cloth. The 1.1 mL volume says it is good for 2 solid minutes of flame, and I do not doubt that; I play with my lighter quite often and refill it once a week using whatever butane I have lying around. (I don't smoke, but I have a soldering toolkit that uses a built-in butane lighter to heat the tip!)

Do not mistake this for the PD1 model; the PD1 is a regular lighter (not a jet) and does not come with the front nozzle blocker, it has a permanent opening. The PD5 has a flap that is interlocked with the trigger, and opens when you activate it.

When lighting, you have to light slowly, else it will spark before the gas is released. Press back until you hear the gas escaping, THEN finish the click.

I have two complaints about this otherwise beautiful lighter.
1- Mine is not perfectly flat on the sides. It bulges out a little bit on either side of the plating near the center. It's hard to notice unless you run your fingers over the sides several times, but it's still there.
2- The gas release adjuster is a bit of a let-down. Once you put the output beyond half the capacity, the gas is released too quickly for the spark to ignite. More alarmingly, once you release, the gas output is so strong that it continue to leak out for a little while longer (think of a hydrolic bus coming to a stop). I'm not sure if this is damaging to the lighter, but it certainly limits the maximum output of the torch, which can be MASSIVE, if you tune the gas release perfectly to the maximum before the output is too much for the striker.

The price of this is also fairly high for the average torch user. I'd dig around for the best price (mine was just over 100). While you might not consider this for yourself, I'd say it's an excellent gift to give.
